Another book on David Bowie and another labor of love. One that takes a more in depth look at
his past life and work. No book can ever claim to be definitive but we have attempted to provide
as accurate a document as possible through and meticulous research and cross-referencing of information.
We believe we have achieved our aim. Numerous trips to libraries and the National Newspaper Archive have
been necessary to bring you this book and we trust that you will enjoy reading it as much as we have
enjoyed compiling it. (Some of the time)
We have managed to unearth a number of previously unseen or rare photos and articles. In addition, we
have included copies of tickets, posters, autographs, programmes and other trivia from the period 1962 to
1968. Sometimes the source or age of the documentation was such that it was no longer in pristine condition
or quality, but we are sure that it was no longer in pristine condition or quality, but we are sure that,
like us, you would prefer to see it in this form than not to see it at all. We believe they are the best
sources available at this time and hope that this will not spoil your enjoyment of the book.
Our list of concert dates is extensive, but as far as we are aware no complete list yet exists. As
anyone who has tried to compile one for themselves will know, some of the information about early
shows is speculative to say the least. We doubt even Bowie himself would be able to produce one.
Having said all that, we would like to suggest that our list is at least, if not more so than
many of those produced by so called other authors. If you have any information which will help
us please let us know.
We would like to explain that we do not have the resources - time, money, researchers - to
acquire the rights and accesses which a publishing deal would afford. We have more than made up
for this however with a genuine respect, understanding and a depth of knowledge.
This book has been over a year in the making and our future intention is to produce more books
covering other periods of Bowie's life and thus, eventually, to have a complete biography. Our
ultimate aim is to provide a coffee table book that you can pick up time and time again to find
something new every time you do so. We would be interested to know if you feel that this would
be a worthwhile objective.
